Don't re-invent the wheel, Mentoring can help!

E-mentoring is available world wide

By using technologies such as on-line meeting software and e-mail, mentoring can be done over the web.

When you first start any machinery healthcare program, there is much more to be done than simply buying software and hardware.

Your folks will need:

  • To set up equipment databases
  • To effectively collect the proper data
  • To analyze data to spot developing problems early
  • To understand the proper actions to take when they find a trend in the data
  • To do advanced analysis in order to diagnose problems

By providing them mentoring, you help them accomplish all this and more.

What is Mentoring?
A mentor is an experienced, trustworthy person who willingly provides useful advice to a new member of a community, profession, or organization in order to best help that person achieve success.

Mentoring relationships can be established either informally by the participants or under the formal sponsorship of an organization.

What Mentoring is not
Mentoring will not do the work for you.
It’s not a service program.

The key to mentoring is a strong one-on-one relationship between a subject matter expert and a technician. A well-designed mentoring project takes advantage of this collaborative relationship. Successful mentoring projects are structured to support business goals.

A good mentoring project is not simply a “pen pal” or “key pal” relationship between a technician and an expert; the mentor should be helping the technician to learn.

Why Establish a Mentoring Program?
The American Society for Training and Development conducted a study which found that training alone increased productivity by 24 percent. However, when combined with coaching and mentoring strategies, implementation of training and productivity were increased by 88 percent!

That is a significant difference! Do you get those kinds of results from your training program?
MMSI’s Mentoring Program
When you choose us as your mentor, we work with you to get the program running efficiently as quickly as possible. We can save you significant time and avoid mistakes that are often made when starting a program for the first time.

Mentoring involves a series of visits to your facility. There is an initial training visit of three to five days followed by on-the-job-training (OJT) visits. During these visits, we review your program and recommend needed changes and enhancements. We conduct OJT to increase your personnel’s skills and knowledge.

At the end of the first year, we will help you do a cost-benefit study if desired. We’ll also summarize program successes and weaknesses.

Mentoring is available for most machinery healthcare program including preventive and predictive maintenance, condition assessment, history collection, and maintenance reliability engineering.
Event Description
Note: This description is for a typical vibration mentoring program. Other subjects will have a similar sequence.
3-day initial training Classroom and OJT training consisting of:
  • Introduction to predictive maintenance
  • Use of hardware and software to collect condition information
  • Training in program development
  • Initial data collection in the plant
  • Review of collected data and actions to be taken
Regular monthly on-the-job training

Work with your technicians as they collect and review data, and diagnose problems. Training on advanced diagnostic techniques is included.
